The Region’s total compensation program supports these goals and attracts people who can continue to deliver excellent customer service to the residents and business of Halton.

"Total compensation" describes not only salary and wages, but also all the plans, programs, benefits and opportunities available to you through your employment. At the Region, your total compensation includes integrated programs and benefits provided in recognition of your contribution to our success, including:

Salary Administration

Halton Region recognizes strong performance and has set up a pay for performance system for its non-union salary employees. Overall performance is evaluated on an annual basis. Your performance effort is recognized and tied directly to your compensation. For our unionized workforce, each collective agreement outlines the timing of and the percentage increases to salaries or hourly rates of pay.

Health, Dental, Life Insurance and Disability

Halton Region provides all eligible employees with life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, extended health, vision care, and dental benefits. In addition, the Region offers Short-Term and Long-Term Disability benefits to protect employees from financial hardship due to illness or injury. Coverage includes:

  • Medical including prescription drugs, hospital, vision care and out of province travel insurance.
  • Dental benefits including coverage for regular cleanings, orthodontics for dependent children, dentures, bridges and crowns.

Pension Plan

Halton Region is a member of the Ontario Municipal Eligible Employees Retirement System (OMERS) (external link). Through payroll deduction, employees contribute to their retirement savings. Being an OMERS member provides you with a great opportunity to plan for the future.

From time to time employees or their family members need to utilize the services of our confidential Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Our EAP can provide assistance to:
