Regional Chair Gary Carr: Recognizing Child Care Workers and Early Childhood Educators

Oct 13, 2023

Child Care Worker with two young children
October 17 is the 23rd annual Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day. On this day, we recognize and celebrate the hard work, passion and dedication of Child Care Workers, Early Childhood Educators (ECEs) and those who care for young children in Halton and across the province.

Thank you to the incredible staff working in our Regional Child Care Centres, licensed child care centres, licensed home care agencies and EarlyON Child and Family Centres for the high-quality care you provide each and every day. I encourage you to watch the video below to learn about the positive impact our Child Care Workers and ECEs have on families and children in Halton.

Bringing more affordable and accessible child care to Halton

Our Halton Children’s Services team has been working hard to implement the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) System, a program that aims to bring the average daily cost of child care down to $10 a day for children under six by 2025. In just one year, the team has:
  • engaged with over 100 licensed child care operators, at over 300 child care sites;
  • enrolled over 88 per cent of providers into the “$10 a day” program; and
  • reduced child care fees so far by almost 53 per cent.
Thank you to the many staff involved for the work you continue to do to bring more accessible and affordable child care spaces to our community. To learn more about the CWELCC System and the importance of high quality early years and child care, please visit halton.ca.

Thank you again to all Child Care Workers and ECEs for everything you continue to do to support children and families in Halton and across Ontario. By providing care to help our youngest residents learn and grow, you help keep Halton a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire.
