About Regional Chair Gary Carr

Gary sits on the Region's Standing Committees of Health and Social Services, Administration and Finance, and Planning and Public Works. He also serves on a number of Regional Advisory Committees.
He was elected to the position of Regional Chair in 2006, having already served 16 years in elected roles:
- as a Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP for Oakville South - 1990-2003; Speaker of the House, 2000-2003); and
- a Member of Parliament (MP for Halton, 2004-2006).
Before entering public service, Mr. Carr was a businessman and sales manager in the transportation industry. While serving in political office, he received a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Athabasca University (2002). He earlier received a certificate in Business Administration from Ryerson University.
As a young man, Regional Chair Carr played professional hockey for 6 years. He was drafted by the Boston Bruins, and played 4 years in their farm system in the International and American Hockey Leagues. Mr. Carr then signed as a free agent with the Quebec Nordiques (now the Colorado Avalanche), where he played 2 more years in the American Hockey League. In 1975, he was a member of the Memorial Cup champion Toronto Marlboros.
