nurse, three apramedics and public works staff

In May, we take time to recognize Halton’s nurses, paramedics and public works staff who provide critical services and infrastructure that support our community every day. Whether on the front line or working behind the scenes, I would like to acknowledge their efforts that help keep our community safe and healthy.

National Nursing Week – May 8 to 14

National Nursing Week celebrates the efforts of nurses, and the incredible support and care they provide across Halton to keep residents healthy. Halton’s nurses deliver a wide range of critical services such as coordinating and administering vaccinations and school-based immunizations for youth, and providing public health information and guidance. They deliver essential programs for young families and provide care for residents living in Regional long-term care homes. I would like to recognize our nurses at Halton Region for their daily contributions and positive impact on resident well-being, and for their efforts in maintaining a high quality of service in our community.

National Public Works Week – May 21 to 27

National Public Works Week celebrates the individuals who provide critical services in waste management, roads, and water and wastewater treatment, as well as its related infrastructure. Halton’s Public Works team works to ensure safe and high-quality drinking water, along with the treatment of wastewater before safely returning it to the environment. They also deliver effective waste management programs and ensure Regional roads are maintained to support your travel. They oversee construction including projects such as widening roads to improve traffic flow, creating new bike lanes and multi-use paths, upgrading watermains and more. I’m proud to recognize everyone working in Halton’s Public Works team for their support in ensuring Halton residents maintain a high quality of life.

National Paramedic Services Week – May 21 to 27

National Paramedic Services Week celebrates the individuals who provide emergency care and community-based medical care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Halton’s Paramedic Services team respond to more than 55,000 calls each year from 15 ambulance stations located throughout the region. In addition to providing pre-hospital emergency and life-saving treatment to residents, they also deliver programming to educate our community, keeping all of us safe. I proudly thank every member of the Paramedic Services team for their efforts to respond to emergencies in our community and provide critical care to residents when they need it most.

On behalf of Regional Council, I would like to thank our nurses, public works staff and paramedics. Their continued dedication to our community helps keep Halton a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire.
