Notice of Commencement: Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Study

Apr 22, 2024

Study

Halton Region’s Transportation Master Plan – The Road to Change identified the need for additional capacity in the Trafalgar Road (Regional Road 3) corridor from Highway 407 (ETR) to Steeles Avenue (Regional Road 8), in the Towns of Halton Hills, Milton, and Oakville. To improve network connectivity and address forecasted travel demand to 2031, Halton Region is initiating a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) study to consider a range of options for corridor improvements to Trafalgar Road.

A wide range of multi-modal transportation improvements will be considered for the corridor including roadway widening, cross-sectional requirements, active transportation, transit supportive infrastructure, intersection improvements, and overall traffic operations. The impacts of the transportation improvements on the social, cultural, and natural environments will be assessed and evaluated through the study.

Process

The study will be carried out in accordance with Schedule C of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA), (October 2000, as amended 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2023), which is an approved process under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act.

Public and review agency consultation is a key element of the MCEA process and input will be sought at key milestones throughout this study. Details regarding upcoming Public Information Centres will be advertised as the study progresses. Upon completion of the study, an Environmental Study Report will be prepared and placed on the public record for a minimum 30-day review period. The document will detail the planning and consultation process and the preferred alternative for the corridor.

Comments

Comments received through the course of the study will be considered and documented in the Environmental Study Report.
