The Villages of Halton have volunteer opportunities for high school students wishing to complete their 40 hour requirement as well as high school co-op placements. College practicums and University internships are also available for students in a related field such as gerontology, therapeutic recreation or social service work. We require a minimum of a 40 hour commitment in a volunteer placement to ensure the volunteer as well as our residents benefit from the experience. Print your application form (PDF file).
Volunteers are important to us in Services For Seniors! Whether helping in a recreation program such as Bingo, assisting seniors to attend a concert or a play; or visiting with residents and clients, volunteers bring sunshine, laughter, and above all caring to brighten the lives of everyone - residents, clients and staff.
In our long-term care homes , volunteers assist with pastoral care, palliative care, recreation, clerical duties, resident escorts, or providing entertainment in a variety of ways. In the Adult Day Program they can help with programming, serving meals or accompany participants on outings. In Supportive Housing friendly visitors are welcomed, giving manicures, or helping seniors with shopping. The Older Adult Advisory Committee (OOAC), formerly the Elder Services Advisory Committee (ESAC), is comprised entirely of volunteers who provide advice and guidance to Regional Staff as well as Halton Regional Council.
There are many ways in which people can participate as volunteers. All you need is an interest in seniors, willingness to help, time to give and caring to share.
