Keeping Halton’s Roads Moving

traffic light

We face them almost everyday. Traffic Signals. On the days you’re running late and seem to hit every red, you hate them. When they all seem to change to green just as you pull up, it makes that day a little bit brighter.

It’s important that traffic signals are timed properly to keep Halton’s roads moving. Not only do properly timed signals save time for drivers and their passengers, they also reduce congestion and delays, saving fuel and reducing air pollution.

But timing traffic signals across Halton Region is no easy task – it takes a lot of work and  planning to keep Halton moving. These pages will try to explain how the traffic signals across the Region operate, what we’re doing to move traffic efficiently and answer some of the questions we hear most often.
