What is it?

Emergency Preparedness Week (EP Week) is a national event held annually. It is coordinated by Public Safety Canada (external link), in collaboration with each province and territory, region and municipality. 

When is it?

The event is celebrated each year during the first week of May. This year’s event takes place from May 1-7, 2016.

Why is Emergency Preparedness Week important?

Emergencies can happen at any time and your best defense is to be prepared. Emergency Preparedness Week helps raise awareness about how to prepare for an emergency and how to keep your family safe in a crisis. It also helps create safer communities by encouraging people to remember those who may be vulnerable or unable to support themselves during an emergency, including family, friends and neighbours.
