The Summer Company program helps enterprising students between the ages of 15 and 29 start and run their own summer business. The Halton Region Small Business Centre coordinates the program locally and delivers it with the support of experienced business advisors from the community.

How can the Summer Company program help?

The Summer Company program offers young entrepreneurs:

  • hands-on business training and mentoring.
  • up to $1,500 in the spring to help with business start-up costs.
  • up to $1,500 upon successful completion of the program requirements.

Who is eligible to participate in the program?

To participate in the Summer Company program, you must:

  • be 15 to 29 years old (parents need to authorize if under 18).
  • be a student in high school, college or university.
  • be returning to school in the fall, after the program ends.
  • live in Ontario and be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  • not already be running a business.
  • not be working at another job or going to school for more than 12 hours a week during the program.

How do I register?

Visit the Ontario government’s Summer Company website to:

  1. Check to see if you are eligible for the program.
  2. Contact a local program provider—a resource centre with a business consultant on site to assist to assist with business planning, support and guidance throughout the Summer Company application process.

A limited number of spaces are available in the program each year so it is advisable to register early!
